Review: Tilley Hat

As an owner of two Tilley Hats I am very happy in the sun.

There may be a Tilly Hat for every lifestyle.

In 2012 I visited my skin doctor for an annual check up. I was a new resident of Nevada and I had already gotten a few sunburns. As I was sitting in the exam room I saw a pamphlet for the Tilley Hat. It seemed like a stylish wide brim hat and there were many different looks available.
When the doctor asked if I had any questions I asked her if she recommended I wear a wide brim hat in the sun. It came highly recommended. At that point it was already decided. I was going to try out a Tilley Hat and see how I liked it.

The Tilly Hat has UPF 50+ protection from the sun which translates to fewer sunburns.
These are the two styles of Tilley Hat that I own myself. The TM10 is my first one. Then I got the LTM3. Each hat has its own advantages. As an example, the snaps on the LTM3 lets me look a bit more Australian. Right now I am limiting myself to just two Tilley Hats. There are a few other styles that I really like. But for now I just don't have the closet space for additional hats for summer. Perhaps when I put away my winter hats I will find the space for an additional Tilley Hat.

Review: Navitas Naturals Hemp Seeds

Hemp Seed Superfood

I have intended to share my opinion of Hemp Seeds as a food for a few months. The day I first ate hemp seeds I was rather impressed. I even felt compelled to share my satisfaction with everyone. I chose to reserve my final review till I had completed eating the entire package of raw shelled hemp seeds.

First impressions of raw shelled hemp seeds

  • Soft and small. Easy to eat.
  • Smooth taste. Others describe as nutty. Not strong at all.
  • Simple packaging. Resealable bag that I keep in the refrigerator.
  • Increased and sustainable energy in the mornings.
  • Lower food cravings or energy drops.
  • High nutritional value to quantity.

Why I have reordered natural hemp seeds

In the mornings I enjoy a slow start. I have a coffee and a bowl of cereal on most days. I would often feel my energy level crash after only about two hours on many days. Eating more was a pretty good solution but I felt like a second breakfast was causing me to overeat. I was looking for a better solution.
In August 2014 I ordered the product featured at the bottom of this page from Amazon.com.You can use my link. I began by taking a mouthful of the shelled hemp seeds. I thought I would get a good idea about what the product was. I don't recommend eating them with a spoon. I was finding them in my teeth and gums all day long despite brushing.
I began topping my cereal with the shelled hemp seeds and almost immediately began noticing my energy in the mornings was more level and consistent for longer than when I had no hemp seeds. When I ran out I feel like my energy began to sputter earlier and with bigger spikes in my blood sugar. My wife noticed I was hangry before lunch more often.

My new order of raw shelled hemp seeds arrived this week

I couldn't be happier that a new bag of hemp seeds arrived. Despite the bouts of being hangry, or because of them, my wife still loves me enough to feed me this premium priced product. I have again been adding the raw shelled hemp seeds to my cereal in the mornings as I did in August. It is now December.
Today, after breakfast I set out on a hike into the hills above my neighborhood. I began hiking at 10:30am and returned at 12:30. In two hours I walked 13,000 steps according to my iPhone. In addition to enjoying the exercise I was pleasantly satisfied with the amount of energy I maintained during the hike.
Amazon pantry provides an option to reorder products automatically. I currently do not have this feature set up. But if there was one product that I would want to have around all the time I would have to say that, after milk and cereal, raw shelled hemp seeds are very high on that list. I consider raw shelled hemp seeds as an easy to eat superfood.

Review: Balega Enduro 2 Quarter Socks

8/13/2014

Spoiler: The Balega Enduro 2 Quarter Sock is currently my absolute favorite sock I have found up till today. And I will tell you why.

In an unexpected place I met a man who changed my socks forever. It was the summer of 2009. I was traveling on a Delta Airlines regional carrier in First Class from Boise to Salt Lake City. I was wearing a Costco cotton sock. He was in the textile business and working with new technology that basically blended PTFE onto the cotton to create NanoGLIDEā„¢  In effect reducing a heat creating friction by adding a teflon substance to the cotton. Those socks were a good step up from cotton. But I found they would shrivel after repeated use. An example is the Asics Kayano. Their good at first but become rough.
I then tried a few other socks with NanoGLIDE. They all seemed to start out great but had a limited life that ended abruptly with a rough fabric.
The Balega sock was recommended to me. If I remembered who it was I would give them credit. Because I love my Balega Enduro 2 Quarter Socks. My sock drawer is filled with them. I started with one pair in early 2012. When I had another $25 I doubled the number of socks I owned. I would wear them all the time and had to do laundry three times a week to keep them clean.
On my birthday I would put Balega Enduro 2 Quarter Socks on my wish list. They come in at least seven color varieties. I like that because it makes them easy to match. Today I have amassed a good size collection of these socks. I love every pair. I still wear my first pair from 2012, they have been that durable and comfortable for me. I honestly haven't looked at these socks materials. It could be high tech or it could be simple natural fibre. Either way; I'm happy with the end product.
I'm not able to clearly detail the tech specs of this sock clearly. I will sum it up with a short list of pros.
  • bulk is medium, not to thin, not to thick
  • friction is irrelevant - it just hugs my foot, no hot spots
  • color selection just right, not to few or fancy colors
  • life expectancy is enormous - 2.5 years or greater for my socks

Review: Ka-Bar USMC Fighting Knife

Is the Ka-Bar USMC fighting knife the best knife ever made?

I'll be completely honest with you. I have know idea if the Ka-Bar USMC fighting knife is the best knife ever made. I own one and I will share what I know about the knife.
I received as a birthday gift on March 29th 2001 a centennial anniversary edition of the Ka-Bar USMC Fighting Knife. It was packaged in a neat rectangular box. The knife inside was sturdy and beautiful.
The very first thing I did was touch and cut my finger. What an idiot 19 year old I was! The knife was razor sharp and has a huge blade surface. I am glad to say I have never since cut myself with this knife. Respect the blade.

Yes, I think so.

Dollar for dollar I couldn't be happier with my
KA-BAR Full Size US Marine Corps Fighting Knife, Straight
It could be the best knife I have ever owned. While I have never actually used it for anything that it was intended to be used for. It gives me great piece of mind just owning the amazing tool.

Review: Automatic Smart Driving Assistant

Automatic connects to your cars OBD II port. It gathers numerous statistics from your daily driving. It links to your smartphones GPS for location. During my last week of driving I was assigned a score. My score is pictured.
As you can see I am an aggressive driver. Lol
Automatic requires bluetooth on your smartphone to work properly. It is easy to set up and tracks a lot of data. I don't consider the data gathered to be perfect but It does do a good job of collecting a lot of driving data with minimal effort on your part.

How I use Automatic along with IFTTT to take it to the next level

Currently I am running a recipe that says "If automatic has a trip then it will be logged into a google drive spreadsheet".
Picture

This is epic. EVERY TRIP I have driven with Automatic since April 2014 has been recorded into a google drive spreadsheet with absolutely no action on my part beyond creating the recipe once over 8 months ago. The second recipe I have going on the www.ifttt.com website is to set a reminder on my iPhone If my car has a check engine light some on. Naturally I will pay attention to the check engine light anyway. The reminder that will be created is just a failsafe so that I don't miss an important message from my car. Automatic app will also interpret the code automatically so you will know what to tell the auto shop when you call to schedule an appointment.

Automatic will remind you where your parked

When I park in a big parking lot at work I try really hard to remember which space I'm parked in. Sometimes after a long day I simply forget where my car is so I peek at the Automatic app. It marks the location of my car when it was last turned off. As a result It knows where to find the car.
The blue location marker is the GPS coordinates of my car. While the marker was mismatched by about 10 feet. I think you can see in this example how useful this feature can be. If you can't find your car when you are 10 feet away than you have bigger problems. Imaging how useful this is when Christmas shopping in a big mall.
If you are interested in getting an Automatic of your own or buying one as a gift then you may want to go thru Our Store page to have one mailed right to your door.
